if
Stepmother: “Well, I see no reason why you can’t go, if you get all your work done—”
Cinderella: “Oh, I will, I promise!”
Stepmother: “—and if you can find something suitable to wear.”
Cinderella: “I’m sure I can. Oh, thank you, Stepmother!” [exit]
Drizella: “Mother! Do you realize what you just said?!”
Stepmother: “Of course. I said if.”
(Cinderella, Disney, 1950)
If. Like Cinderella’s evening was left to the determination of her stepmother, our every move is left to the determination of God. And that can be so ridiculously difficult to understand and obey! It seems like I have to relearn this lesson over and over again. My life isn’t mine; it’s His. Even if I fight to hang onto a nonexistent “control,” it’s still subject to His will. I might as well save myself the energy and let go!

wednesday
Anyway. I decided to join in on some of the fun, if for no other reason than to give myself a blog topic. :)
First off: Lovely Photo Wednesday at Aspire.
I thought this sheet music looked cool… it’s a Keith Green song that my brothers and sister like to play. :)
Next, the weekly Little Somethings photo challenge. This week’s theme is “little.”
And finally— “what I’m loving” Wednesday at littledaisymay.blogspot.com. I think this is kind of cool because it puts me in a positive mindset, thinking about things that I am happy about instead of things to stress about.
I’m loving that I have finished my 4 hideous British Literature 205 finals! I even kept my grade a shade over 100% in the class. Now I’m free!!!
I’m loving that I can now run 3.1 miles.
I’m loving the awesomeness of seeing my brother’s mechanical engineering graduation this weekend AND spending a few days at my best friend’s house!!!!
I’m loving the view from our living room window. I think I fall in love with it over again every time I see it:
What about you??

beautiful days
I wish I could show you today in such a way that you could actually feel it. Photos and words can give you an image of beauty, but they often can’t speak to your senses of hearing, smell, taste, and touch unless you have prior direct experience to draw from. Especially since I’m not John Keats.
But if you’ve ever smelled warm May air, heavy with the scents of lilac and tulip and fresh-cut grass…
… and if you’ve ever seen billowy clouds crawl slothfully across a hazy blue sky…
… and ever heard the springtime silence, broken only by the rustling of new leaves and the buzzing of bumblebees…
… then you should be able to imagine this beautiful Goldendale day very well. :)
I’m linking this next photo to Carlotta’s photo challenge. Her theme is green… my favorite!
I admit that I should have been doing something more productive than creating mist-storms and photographing the results this afternoon. Something like homework, or preparing the presentation I have to do… tomorrow. (I’m not usually much of a procrastinator… but this one got away from me.)
But beautiful days are not for homework, in my opinion.
They’re for drinking up the sunshine, consuming the beauty, seeking the glorious little details, breathing the warmth after a long, cold, wet winter.
It probably isn’t wise, but sometimes I let days like this erase all the other worries and stresses from my mind for a couple of hours, while I cram my memory card with hundreds of pictures.
But chances are, tonight’s homework and tomorrow’s presentation probably won’t have a very high standing in my memory a year from now, or even next week, for all I know. Tranquility is a wonderful thing, and goodness knows it’s hard enough to come by (especially for me!), so enjoy it while it lasts, eh?
How great is our God.

water
I love water. To watch these waves hit the shoreline was to transport myself to summertime. (That we actually had a sunny day helped.)
Here’s a face you haven’t seen in a long time…
Seems like Mt. Adams has been suffocated behind clouds for weeks!
Only two things surpass a day at the river: a day at the Lake and a day at the ocean.
Her expression cracks me up. :)
Creation is beautiful.
