easy as pie

I made my first pie today! Whoever coined the above phrase must have had a sarcastic streak, because it was definitely one of the harder desserts I’ve made! But so worth it, with apples fresh off our biggest tree and crust laden with butter.

Peeling, coring, and slicing the apples was the most time-consuming, but probably also the simplest step.

Did I mention the butter in the crust? The lots of butter?

The bottom crust was a lot easier than I was expecting, although I had to fold it to a manageable size and thus ended up with a couple of mild cracks.

The top crust, on the other hand, was a bit of a pain. First of all, it probably could have been just a tad bigger so I could fold it over better. Secondly… it cracked bigtime. Sigh.

Mom’s question once I got the pie in the oven: “So… did you actually want to learn how to make a pie, or did you just want to take pictures of it?”

I did want to learn how to make a pie. Really. But the pictures were a bonus. :)

Mmm. With a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream… perfection. Even with the cracked crust.

  3. Yum!!! I'll be right over =)

You and Emily can commiserate on crust making, but it doesn't seem to matter on the finished product's taste.
