scavenger hunt viii

Wow, my camera has about an inch of dust on it right now. Amazing what a few college courses can do to my creativity and free time! I did manage to get a few together for this week’s scavenger hunt, though. :)

inspired by a book or movie

Yes, this is an archives photo. Darn, I was really hoping to think of something awesome—especially since I constantly have movie quotes floating through my brain. Oh well. You have to live with the Narnia-scape.

brown

This photo is a couple weeks old, but I figured that would be okay since you haven’t seen it yet. The cows themselves were only brown because they had so much dirt on them (I think they were supposed to be gray).

hazy

I took this at sunrise after my morning run on Monday. In the opposite direction was a huge double rainbow. :)

coffee or tea

This photo of our teakettle was a completely random attempt at bokeh. I had no idea there would be any “coffee or tea” prompt to use it for!

linger

Ironically, “linger” is exactly what Ana did not want to do while I was taking these pictures. I loved the spot so much that I kept her posing there for a little longer than she wanted to… But they turned out fantastic, so I’m forgiven.

scavenger hunt vii

street photography
It took me forever to get an idea for this prompt. I just don’t see much that’s picturesque about the streets of Goldendale, but on my way in for drama practice the other day, the clouds around the top of the grain towers caught my eye.

from a distance
I absolutely could not go to sleep one night, so I got up to take pictures of the full moon and experiment with night lighting. It actually helped me go to sleep faster once I got back in bed. :)scavhunt15
sunday
I wanted to get an old-fashioned, “Sunday best” type feel for this prompt. Of course, Amy was all too willing to model for me. :)

bokeh

Yum, yum, yum. These blackberry bushes were draped over a sheer rock wall at Fort Columbia. You have no idea how much I wanted to pick every. last. one.

process of elimination

Have you noticed that a lot of photos are made not by what is in them, but by what is left out?

remember

Most people are thinking a lot on 9/11 this weekend. I was only seven years old on that horrible day, but I remember it vividly. A Tuesday morning; I had just gotten up and was going to start doing the day’s school soon. My oldest brother Tim came down the hallway from the TV room. I don’t remember what he said, but I followed him back to the TV to see a video of a plane flying straight into a skyscraper.

I didn’t really grasp the weight of it at the time. At seven years old, New York City might as well have been Pluto. But there was one link of reality: the American flag, which flew over NYC as well as my hometown.

statues

There is an absolute lack of statues in the vicinity of my home, which I never noticed until I tried to find one for this prompt. So I settled for a photo of Flicka, one of our collection of Breyer horses.

flying high

I went for a mood interpretation on this one, rather than taking it literally. And what better mood booster for a chocoholic than chocolate?! I always feel so much better knowing that I have a small supply of chocolate on hand, just in case. :)

Irrigation lines at sunset. :) I like how the sprinklers are illuminated by the low sun.mt30

Ummm… window frame inside the dormer frame? Framing the moon on two sides? This prompt completely had me stumped.

best part of your day
My favorite part of the day is from golden hour until midnight. I’m definitely a night owl! I’ve made a habit this summer of getting up early in the morning, though, and I find that I really like the freshness of the morning air too. Since I really couldn’t decide (and wasn’t really sure what a picture of the best part of my day should look like) I finally chose to show you the best part of one particular day. This particular day was Thursday, and the best part was right about 3 p.m. when my project of making some absolutely delicious (and time consuming!) no-fry doughnuts was finally over, and I got to test taste them.

buttons
I stole this idea from found inspiration for this photo from Teresa. Buttons aren’t quite as exciting as the wedding rings she was photographing, but I thought it was cute. If you haven’t seen Teresa’s blog yet, head on over… it’s one of my favorite places on the Internet!

ink
Archives photo, sorry. This reminds me of an animated movie my sister and I used to watch when we were little—“Country Mouse and City Mouse.” In one episode, they had to re-print an entire orchestra’s sheet music using their paws and a jar of ink. I always loved that part.rockchuck7
and because I can’t resist…
…you get to see a few more pictures from my “buttons” shoot. I liked the way these turned out. :)

seeing double/two
I layered one of my self portraits over one of my landscapes for a kind of interesting looking double picture. :)

How I love prompts like this! Bokeh bubbles. :)

Okay, I don’t know about anyone else, but I think penguins are some of the cutest and sweetest little creatures alive. (It seems to run in my family to like penguins.)

Not many living, breathing things take up as much space as these.

bright
Talk about bright colors! These are called Lorikeets and they are so cute! I have to say my favorite part is the bokeh, though.

As you probably figured out… we visited the zoo this week. :)

scavenger hunt ii

walking empty streets

I wasn’t literally on a street when I took this picture, but “empty streets” makes me think “deserted,” so this picture seems to fit.river2

repeating patterns

My just-out-of-ninth-grade sister might be able to tell you the scientific categorization for the pattern of veins in this petal. If I remembered anything from biology in ninth grade, I could too…

floor

This was hard! Floors really aren’t that inspiring, but it makes the scavenger hunt more challenging—and thus, of course, more fun. I decided to use an outdoor floor to get some texture. :)

Okay, I have to admit… *cringe*… that this photo is also from my archives. I know, lame! I won’t even start with excuses. I just hope you like it. :)

So in spite of the Return to the Archives, did I do okay?

A few more bright and cheery pictures for you:

Last but not least, I have a request to make of you. As you might be able to tell if you’ve been around my blog long, I’m not really a heavy photo editor. I enhance, but in most cases I don’t do drastic manipulations. If I do, I’m never really sure about the result. So I’m going to post a SOOC shot and two edits (which aren’t exactly drastic, but kind of drastic from my point of view), and if you could tell me your thoughts, I would be ever so obliged!

scavenger hunt

I’m doing another new link up! I’ve seen this one around a lot of blogs and decided to try it since I found its source over at Ashley’s. I think this one is awesome because five topics are given each week, and everyone has a different interpretation of the topics. This week’s topics were something that looks like a letter of the alphabet, weather, bling, tangled, and dark.

something that looks like a letter of the alphabet

This stumped me at first. I kept looking around and trying to see letters of the alphabet in ordinary objects, but they completely eluded me until my brothers were playing croquet at our Fourth of July picnic.
Self Portrait 6 - Alphabet

weather

I was hoping for something a little more climactic than this—like a raging thunderstorm or an awesome dust devil. But the truth is, Mt. Adams is like a natural weather-predictor around here. When it looks like this, it’s almost invariably dead calm (or as close to dead calm as this place gets). If there’s a cloud on that horizon, you can expect wind and a weather change.
3Mt2

bling

When I think “bling,” I think of the girls at rodeos whose belts, bridles, breast-collars, and saddles are so studded with rhinestones that they blind anyone who’s not wearing sunglasses. The “showiness” doesn’t really appeal to me, so I went for “natural” bling instead—the kind from sun hitting mid-air water droplets. :)
Self Portrait 7 - Bling

tangled

A couple of factors influenced my choice of pictures for this topic. First of all, wind is perpetual here. If the weather station reads “0 mph” it’s either a miracle or it’s 6 a.m. And it has its effect on the second factor—my hair, which is waist-long. So when you say tangled, I think hair.
Self Portrait 3 - Tangled

dark

With Fourth of July and all, this one was a no-brainer for me: fireworks!

This was a blast!!!
