a story in elevens

I rarely do tags on my blog, but I’ve always wanted to… so my sister’s invitation was timely. :) The rules: post eleven random facts about yourself and then answer the eleven questions given by whoever tagged you. Here goes!

ParadeLights4ParadeLights3

Random facts that reflect my story this week. a) I think every color combination looks better with green in it. b) I love to run, ride horses, and do other active things. c) 1 Samuel and Ecclesiastes are my two (current) favorite books of the Bible. d) Nighttime is my favorite because it means I get to sleep. e) Peanut butter should be eaten on (almost) everything. f) My 50mm f/1.8 lens is my bff this time of year (well, just about any time of year). g) I get very crabby and restless when I go without a creative outlet for too long, and I have dozens of stories stewing in my mind waiting to be written in some form. h) Batman and Darth Vader are my heroes. i) When I want to relax, I bake food—usually sweets. j) Lately, this is my music mood. k) I’m going home to the beautiful Pacific Northwest in less than one week!

Hannah’s eleven questions.

1) Have you read The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit?
I have read The Hobbit—loved it and am looking forward to the movie. But I’m not sure I’ll ever have the time to read the full Lord of the Rings.
2) Who is your favorite author?
As a current Bible student, I can honestly say (without it being a cop-out) that my favorite author is God. But if that doesn’t count… I really like Louisa May Alcott.
3) Do you use Pinterest?
Yes. I pin inspiration after inspiration. My problem is that I rarely have time to actually do them, though…
4) Do you have a common name, or a rare one (e.g., as in Hannah is extremely common)?
Sort of rare, I guess. HAL-ee is much more unusual than HAY-lee, although most people mix them up.
5) Do you like your middle name (you don't have to give it out)?
Yes (my full middle name is Joanna), but I don’t like it quite as much as my first name.
6) What's your favorite animal?
Horses and cats. I don’t think I could choose between those two.
7) What's your favorite number?
Any odd number is good (unless it ends in 5)… but my very favorite would probably be 17.
8) Do you have any weird pet peeves?
I cannot stand the sound of people popping their joints (especially knuckles and neck). Also, misused apostrophes and commas, misspelled words, and homonym mix-ups drive me crazy.
9) Do you like the city or the country better?
Country. Sounds cliché, but now that I have lived both in the sprawling farmland of southeastern Washington and a small apartment in downtown central Florida, I can safely say I like the country much better.
10) Are you a fan of the "tall, dark, and handsome" or the "pale, wan, and blond"?
This is hard… I would have to say tall, dark, and handsome just because they usually come with a dark and semi-bad-guy personality. But I like blond characters just as much as long as they come with the dark personality!
11) Do you like linkups or book reviews better?
A balance of the two is good. Probably a few more reviews than linkups though?

Amy etc. 001

For anyone else who would like to link up their story in elevens, here are your questions: (You can link up or just do them in a comment if you want to!)

1) Are you a morning person or a night owl?
2) What is typical December/Christmas weather like where you live?
3) Can you speak any second languages?
4) What is the biggest traditional meal at your house during the holidays (e.g., Christmas Eve dinner, Christmas morning breakfast)?
5) What were the three best parts of your week?
6) What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?
7) What fictional character do you think you’re most like?
8) Would you rather take a vacation to the tropics or to Europe?
9) What was the last thing you tried for the first time?
10) Do you get a real or fake Christmas tree?
11) Are you making any New Year’s resolutions? If so, what are they going to be?

a sunday afternoon story

Sunday4Sunday5Sunday3Sunday13Sunday17Sunday22Sunday23Sunday15Sunday19Sunday20Sunday21Sunday25Sunday28Sunday26Sunday32Sunday34Sunday29Sunday37Sunday40Sunday39Sunday42Sunday38
Sunday afternoons are my favorite. Heading way out of town to the Schroeders’ for their huge family lunch after church, filling up on delicious food and hilarious conversation, and watching various competitive individuals battle it out in ping pong… it rings of hominess, if that’s a word. Driving out to the pond in Cody’s big black truck, listening to country music that we don’t even like, and catching tilapia fish for the first time… watching the sun shift below the mossy treeline at that pale golden angle that is distinctly winter, even in Florida… looking forward, more every moment, to flying home to the beautiful Pacific Northwest for Christmas.

That’s my story this week. What’s yours? Whether you use words or pictures or movie quotes or song lyrics, I’d love it if you’d link up a little snippet of your journal today. :)
