hints of spring (in other places)

NOTE: I apologize for the inconsistencies in the blog design… I’m experimenting with new ideas and things might not be completely organized for awhile. Thanks!

Anyway, I am utterly and completely ready for spring. I did a little bit of traveling down to western Oregon in the last couple weeks, and I’m so jealous that they have green grass and flowers peeking out of the soil!

It’s criminal that anyone should have blooming pink bushes in February! Meanwhile, in Goldendale, the only bits of floral color are the potted ones from the grocery store…

Dear Spring,

I have a suggestion to make. Maybe you should try setting out for Goldendale a little bit early this year so you don’t have to come in a huffing and puffing hurry on raging west winds? Just a thought.

Sincerely,

Hallie.

scavenger hunt vi

Yum, yum, yum. These blackberry bushes were draped over a sheer rock wall at Fort Columbia. You have no idea how much I wanted to pick every. last. one.

process of elimination

Have you noticed that a lot of photos are made not by what is in them, but by what is left out?

remember

Most people are thinking a lot on 9/11 this weekend. I was only seven years old on that horrible day, but I remember it vividly. A Tuesday morning; I had just gotten up and was going to start doing the day’s school soon. My oldest brother Tim came down the hallway from the TV room. I don’t remember what he said, but I followed him back to the TV to see a video of a plane flying straight into a skyscraper.

I didn’t really grasp the weight of it at the time. At seven years old, New York City might as well have been Pluto. But there was one link of reality: the American flag, which flew over NYC as well as my hometown.

statues

There is an absolute lack of statues in the vicinity of my home, which I never noticed until I tried to find one for this prompt. So I settled for a photo of Flicka, one of our collection of Breyer horses.

I went for a mood interpretation on this one, rather than taking it literally. And what better mood booster for a chocoholic than chocolate?! I always feel so much better knowing that I have a small supply of chocolate on hand, just in case. :)

raspberries

The raspberries are finally coming in after an exceptionally rainy and cold season. Mom uses most of them to make jam, but I love eating them fresh-picked from the plant. :)
