wild goose chase

Well, not really a goose chase… more like a Mallard duck chase. Or we could generalize it to wild picture chase, because in the end, that’s what it all boils down to.

This is “Harry” and “Hilda.”

More likely, they are neighboring duplicates of “the” Harry and Hilda who frequent our pond, but my little sister doesn’t know that.

Ducks are really, really hard to take pictures of. Maybe not as bad as snipes or Virginia rails, but still… there is nothing more infuriating than creeping down to get a closeup shot, only to have them either swim away with arrogant grace (and they can swim so fast!) or explode from the water into panicked flight, never to be heard from again.


They also enjoy hiding their faces from the camera entirely. Sigh.



After failing to keep the ducks on the pond, I did some “fine art” type of photography in the barn. Not much there to be considered fine art, but I thought these shots of an old, idle halter turned out kinda cool.


It won’t be idle for too long, though, if spring comes as early as I hope it does. (Don’t tell Drem I said that!)

lonely

It’s coooold outside! Well, come to think of it, it could be a lot colder. I think it’s the wind that makes it seem so frigid.

Today I took my poor, neglected camera (or maybe it’s happy for the vacation—I can’t decide) and explored a local park as a possible location for an upcoming portrait shoot. (Yes, I’m hoping to share these with you when they occur—stay tuned!) During the spring and summer, when Little League baseball is in session, this park is fairly popular. But it sure is lonely in cold early February.

Lonely swing sets … lonely fall leaves … lonely, forsaken pine cones. My lonely camera fit right in!

But lonely will be the perfect conditions for a portrait shoot. And I found some very promising places to pose!!

Well, I must confess that my photographic adventures have been few and far between lately. I’m pretty much recovered from whatever virus or infection it was that I had, but I haven’t seen too much to attract my lens lately. Maybe I just haven’t done enough searching for it.

One thing that really helped pass the time while I was sick was going through all my thousands of old photos. I found some pretty good (or at least interesting) ones that I’d forgotten about entirely!

This one (above) is actually the very first photo I posted to this blog!

In addition to going through old photos, I spent some time on design. I’m sure you’ve noticed the new template… Still not wholly positive if I like it, but I felt like having something light and springy. I’m fully prepared for winter to be over. :) Here are some of the other headers I designed:
